Its seat is the village of Baligród, which lies approximately convert|15|km|mi|0 south of Lesko and convert|79|km|mi|0|abbr=on south of the regional capital Rzeszów.

The gmina covers an area of convert|158.12|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 3,176.

The gmina contains part of the protected area called Cisna-Wetlina Landscape Park.
