"Burn" is a hard rock song by British rock band Deep Purple. It was released on the album of the same name in 1974, and was the first song by the Mark III lineup.

The song remained the band's concert opener for the next two years, taking over from "Highway Star". It opened Deep Purple's set on the California Jam two months after its release, on April 6 1974.

After the Deep Purple 1984 reunion, the song was no longer played, as Ian Gillan, who David Coverdale replaced, was vocalist once more, and would not sing songs from after he left the band. The band did perform it live from 1989 to 1992, [ [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afWz78dLzr4 YouTube - Deep Purple - Burn ] ] though, because during those years, Gillan was fired from the band once more, and Joe Lynn Turner, who had not previously been in the band replaced him. However, Gillan returned to the band in 1992, and thereby put an end to the band performing Coverdale-era songs to this day. After Deep Purple's 1976 split-up, though, Coverdale formed his own band, Whitesnake, which, over the years has featured Deep Purple members such as Jon Lord, Ian Paice and Don Airey, and has performed covers of Coverdale-era Deep Purple songs such as "Burn", "Mistreated", "Might Just Take Your Life", "Soldier of Fortune", and "Stormbringer".
