- Wireless Leiden
Wireless Leiden is a
wireless community network inLeiden ,Netherlands .The Wireless Leiden Foundation (founded in 2002) has set up a WiFi Wireless network in
Leiden (the Netherlands), only with the help of volunteers, with some financial support by sponsors. The network is maintained completely by volunteers. The network is accessible free for everybody who wants to use it. This is possible because there are no expenses of any importance, as the volunteers who build and maintain the network do not receive any payment for their contribution and - as said - the materials needed are being donated. The software used in the network is completely
open source . Internet providerDemon Internet , donates freeInternet to the foundation, which makes it possible for the users to access theInternet over the network. The Internet connection is - however - limited to the downloading of web pages. The network can be used - and is being used - for instance in homes, schools and public buildings (like libraries). In many places inLeiden it is advisable to use an external antenna. In the city center, however, on most places alaptop is enough to access the network. Wireless Leiden is one of the first (public) wireless networks in the Netherlands. It is doubtless the largest community WiFi network in the Netherlands and probably even the largest community network in the World.External links
