The FPS Economy, SMEs, Middle Classes and Energy ( _nl. FOD Economie, KMO, Middenstand en Energie , _fr. SPF Économie, PME, Classes moyennes et Énergie, _de. FÖD Wirtschaft, KMU, Mittelstand und Energie), more commonly known as the FPS Economy, is a Federal Public Service of
Belgium . It was created byRoyal Order onFebruary 25 ,2002 , as part of the plans of the first Verhofstadt Government to modernise the federal administration. It is responsible for contributing to the development, competitiveness and sustainability of the goods and services market, ensuring the position of the Belgian economy at the international level, promoting trade by fair economic relations in a competitive market, collecting, processing and disseminating economic information.Ministers
The FPS Economy is currently responsible to not less than three ministers:
*Marc Verwilghen (VLD), Minister of Economy, Energy, Foreign Trade and Science Policy
*Sabine Laruelle (MR), Minister of Middle Classes and Agriculture
*Freya Van den Bossche (SP.A), Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Budget and Consumer AffairsOrganisation
The FPS Economy is currently organised into nine Directorates-General:
