Joana and the Wolf is a
London -based alternative rock band comprising four members: Lead singerJoana Glaza , guitarist Ali, bassist Katie and drummer Louis.Joana is originally from
Lithuania , and the rest of the band are English.Joana is the songwriter of the group. Musical influences include:
PJ Harvey ,Stooges ,Björk andKate Bush .Performing live and releasing music
The band formed in summer 2005 and began performing in public in September of that year, playing their first gig at a venue called The Betsey Trotwood in
Farringdon , London. Since then, they have played at several well-known London venues, including:The Spitz ,Barfly ,100 Club , Luminaire, The Enterprise, Water Rats, Hoxton Bar & Kitchen, Proud Gallery, Metro, Ghetto and The Dublin Castle.Following a gig at Water Rats in
King's Cross , members ofKasabian who were in attendance invited Joana to record a guest vocal on their single (and title track of their second album),Empire .The band has released one single so far, produced by Jim Abbiss, who had previously worked with
Arctic Monkeys andEditors . "Purple Nights" backed with "November" was released on7" vinyl andiTunes on14 August 2006 by Regal Records (an offshoot ofParlophone ). The group toured in July / August 2006 to promote the single, playing venues inNottingham ,Middlesbrough , Hull andLondon , as well as supportingJames Dean Bradfield at his solo gig atULU on11 July 2006 . The tour culminated in an appearance atBestival on theIsle of Wight in September 2006.Joana and the Wolf also played in
Brighton in summer 2006 as part of The Great Escape Festival, supportingThe Bees . Following the gig, they were offered a live session onJohn Kennedy 'sXfm show, which was recorded and broadcast later in 2006.Songs

15 May 2007 , the band performed and received their first ever award at the inauguralIndy Music Awards , which was created to support and recognise independent bands and venues in London. They won in their category of "Best New Wave/Progressive Act" and followed the win with a performance of their song "Pablo".The future
Joana took her bandmates to her home country for the first time on
25 August 2007 for Be2Gether, a new music festival in South EasternLithuania . They played alongsideTherapy? ,The Young Knives andBloodhound Gang . Joana has received media attention inLithuania , appearing in Cosmopolitan magazine. The band's music has also been played on national radio leading up to their appearance at the festival.Image gallery
