Beyond Ex-Gay

Beyond Ex-Gay, or bXg, is an on-line community for people who at one time participated in the ex-gay movement in an attempt to change their sexual orientation to heterosexual, but who then later went on to publicly acknowledge their sexual orientation as falling under the LGBT umbrella, or as they are also known Ex-ex-gay. The site was founded by Christine Bakke [ [http://www.glamour.com/news/articles/2007/04/curegay They Tried to Cure Me of Being Gay] --Glamour Magazine May 2007] and Peterson Toscano with technical help from Steve Boese.

The site includes narratives of people who spent time in the ex-gay movement involved in conversion therapy and other forms of ex-gay treatment and ministry. In addition, the site has pages with poetry, artwork and articles by ex-ex-gay people.

Together with Soulforce, bXg put together the Ex-Gay Survivor Conference [ [http://baywindows.com/ME2/Audiences/dirmod.asp?sid=008EC9FBCFF24AD18614290016BE1303&nm=Current+Issue&type=Publishing&mod=Publications%3A%3AArticle&mid=8F3A7027421841978F18BE895F87F791&AudID=0813BC739F2044E5A03DCF2DE3FDF7C9&tier=4&id=241D6C9E12CC4281AADA1ACE0E29DC07 Ex-gay survivors gain public profile] -Bay Windows July 17, 2007] in Irvine, CA, the first conference of its kind which also coincided with the Exodus International conference happening the same week also in Irvine, CA.

They also organized a press conference on June 27, 2007 in Los Angeles, CA where three former Exodus International leaders issued a public apology for their roles in providing and promoting ex-gay conversion therapy. [ [http://www.advocate.com/exclusive_detail_ektid46979.asp A Sincere Apology] Advocate On-Line June 29, 2007] These three included Jermey Marks of Courage UK, Micheal Bussee, one of the original founders of Exodus International and Darlene Bogle. On August 17, 2007 bXg and Soulforce announced that three former ex-gay leaders from Australia also publicly apologized.
