Wesleyan Philosophical Society

The Wesleyan Philosophical Society is a learned society founded in 2001. Its membership is diverse with the majority of its members representing academic institutions that are in the Wesleyan tradition. Through regular meetings, its web site, and published proceedings, the society continues to advance careful study in a wide variety of disciplines including the humanities and the sciences.

History of the Society

The society was conceived during a 2001 meeting of the Wesleyan Theological Society meeting at Azusa Pacific University, Azusa, CA. The society first met in Hobe Sound, Florida in March, 2002. It regularly meets once a year at various sites around the United States of America. Its leadership is elected from members of the society at its annual business meeting during its conference. Its executive leaderhip is composed of a President, 1st Vice-President, 2nd Vice-President, the editor of the online journal, and recent past-presidents.

ociety Publications

The WPS has published significant papers on its online website, [http://wps.snu.edu wps.snu.edu] . Published papers are selected from conference presentations. Conference presentations are the result of a peer-review process of selection from a widely disbursed Call for Papers. The site is edited by Brint Montgomery, professor of Philosophy at Southern Nazarene University. In 2007, Thomas Jay Oord edited a text entitled The Many Facets of Love: Philosophical Perspectives ¹ published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing² that is a collection of the 2006 conference papers plus other contributions.
