Hamburg until 1963, when he was promoted toBrigadegeneral . In 1970 he was promoted toGeneralmajor and commanded the 5th Panzer-Division inDiez . Promoted further in 1974, was named Chief of the Troop Office of the Bundeswehr holding the rank ofGeneralleutnant .He was awarded Great Cross of Merit with Star and
