Tim Butcher (born 1967) is an English
journalist andauthor .Born in
Warwickshire ,UK , he was educated atRugby School , and Magdalen College,Oxford University .He is the author of "Blood River: A Journey to Africa's Broken Heart", an account of his journey across the
Congo , following the path ofHenry Morton Stanley 's 1870s expedition. The book was published byRandom House in 2007 and reached Number 1 in the "Sunday Times " bestseller list in March 2008. The book was the only non-fiction title in the "Richard & Judy " Book Club 2008 and was runner-up for the top prize at the 2008 British Book Awards winning more votes from members of the public than any other non-fiction. In May 2008 it was one of six titles shortlisted for the 2008 Samuel Johnson prize, the UK's most prestigious non-fiction literary award. It was shortlisted for theDolman Best Travel Book Award .Since joining the staff of "
