USS Norma (AK-86) was an "Enceladus"-class
cargo ship commissioned by theU.S. Navy for service inWorld War II . She was responsible for delivering goods and equipment to locations in the war zone. After commissioning, she was transferred to theU.S. Army as "USAT Henry Wright Hurley".Building a ship for the Army
"Norma" (AK–86), originally designated M.C. hull 649 and assigned the name "MV Summer Pierce", was renamed "Norma"
30 October 1942 ; laid down3 December 1943 byPenn-Jersey Shipbuilding Corp.,Camden, New Jersey : launched4 June 1944 ; sponsored by Mrs. Joseph Kijek; delivered to the Navy6 June 1944 and transferred to the Army the same day for use as a cargo ship. "Norma" was struck from theNavy List 28 June 1944 .Army service
She was completed as a Port Rehabilitation vessel and renamed "USAT Henry Wright Hurley".
Final disposition
She was returned to the
Maritime Administration (date unknown). Final Disposition: scrapped in1970 .References
