"Mira" (AK 84) was laid down under
Maritime Commission contract byPenn Jersey Shipbuilding Corp.,Camden, New Jersey ,22 May 1943 as "MV William Nott"; launched31 October 1943 ; sponsored by Mrs. Clementine C. O’Brien; acquired by theU.S. Navy 6 November 1943 for service as "Mira" (AK-84). However, she was never commissioned but was transferred to the Army7 November 1943 . Her name was struck from theNavy list 16 November 1943 .Serving the Army as USAT Robert M. Emery
"Mira" served the remainder of
World War II under control of the War Department. Renamed "USAT Robert M. Emery" in1944 , she was converted for use as an engineer port repair ship byBethlehem Steel Co., Inc.,Brooklyn, New York , in mid1944 . Thence, she served at ports in theUnited Kingdom ,North Africa , andFrance . She steamed to thePacific Ocean in July1945 and operated in theHawaiian Islands between September and November. Subsequently, she returned to the west coast for transfer to theMaritime Commission .Final decommissioning
"Mira" was returned to the
Maritime Commission (date unknown). Final Disposition: sold for scrapping in1966 .References
