Largest urban areas of Norway
- Largest urban areas of Norway
This is a list of the largest urban areas of Norway by population.
The population is measured by Statistics Norway. The statistics bureau uses the term "tettsted" (urban settlement or urban area), which is defined as a contiguous built-up area with a maximum distance of 200 metres between houses, unless further distance is caused by public areas, cemeteries or similar. Furthermore, to obtain "tettsted"-status, the area must have at least 200 inhabitants. [Statistics Norway, " [http://www.ssb.no/beftett/tab-2008-06-20-01.html Tettsteder. Folkemengde og areal, etter kommune. 1. januar 2008] "]
Using this definition, there are 922 urban areas in Norway.
Some urban areas in Norway have witnessed conurbation and grown together.
