The U.S. House election, 1868 was an election for the United States House of Representatives in 1868 which coincided with the election of President Ulysses S. Grant.
Grant's Republican Party retained the commanding majority it had following the Civil War, although as more southern states exited Reconstruction more Democratic seats appeared in the South. The small Conservative Party also picked up several Southern seats, as it had support among wealthy Southern leaders who wanted to increase the region's power.
