Dodge Center High School, located in Dodge Center, Minnesota existed from the 1870s until 1990, when the town of Dodge Center combined with the neighboring towns of West Concord, Minnesota and Claremont to form Triton High School.
Although the Dodge Center area was first settled in the 1850s and officially became a town in 1869, the first high school commencement exercises did not occur until 1885. (Reference: A copy of the program for the graduating class of 1984 lists that year as being the 100th annual commencement exercises of the school.)
A red brick building was erected to house Dodge Center school children in the early 1890s at the corner of 1st Ave NW and 3rd St NW (one block north of Main Street). An addition that included more classroom space, a gymnasium and auditorium was completed in 1936, part of President Franklin Roosevelt's WPA program. An elementary school connecting to the original building was completed in 1958. The 1890s portion of the building was demolished in 1972 and a new high school was erected on the western edge of town. The 1936 and 1958 additions remain standing and are now owned by a private entity (as of August 2007).
It is not known when the school chose a nickname and/or when they started participating in organized athletics. The school colors were maroon and gold until the 1930s or 1940s, when the school colors were changed to green and white. The nickname was Dodgers. School fight song was "D.C. Rouser" to the tune of the Minnesota Rouser from the University of Minnesota.
An official school annual was first published in 1947 and called "Dodger Digest." Later, the annual was called "Centerite" and continued publishing each year through 1990, when the last class graduated from Dodge Center High School.
Notable alumni include Astronomer Milton Humason and Agronomist Perry Greeley Holden, as well as famous psychiatric patient Shirley Ardell Mason '41, the basis of the well known book and subsequent movie, Sybil.
