San Luis Pass is a
strait of water at the south-western end ofGalveston Island off the shores of theU.S. state ofTexas . It connects the sheltered waters of West Bay to the openGulf of Mexico .There are also two
mountain pass es of the same name in theUSA :
*San Luis Pass, Colorado skirting theSan Luis Peak in theSan Juan Mountains
*San Luis Pass, New Mexico Fishing
Pier fishing on the San Luis Pass Pier has been a favorite for vistors and locals alike for many years. The pass is also home to bank fishermen who often travel many miles to take advantage of the excellent redfish population from June thru October.
Overnight camping, while once allowed, is prohibited on the Galveston side of the pass. Swimmers and fishermen have been killed in the Passes treacherous waters, largely due to murky water and fast moving currents.
