U.S. Route 24 about 7 miles (11 km) east of El Paso. It is also about that distance west of Chenoa. Gridley is about halfway betweenInterstate 39 andInterstate 55 . As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,411 people, 550 households, and 387 families residing in the village. Thepopulation density was 1,215.6 people per square mile (469.6/km²). There were 569 housing units at an average density of 490.2/sq mi (189.4/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 97.73% White, 0.28% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.50% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 1.13% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.71% of the population.There were 550 households out of which 34.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.2% were married couples living together, 7.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.6% were non-families. 27.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.16.
In the village the population was spread out with 28.6% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 27.7% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.4 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $46,458, and the median income for a family was $51,908. Males had a median income of $36,818 versus $25,625 for females. The
per capita income for the village was $19,752. About 5.9% of families and 6.4% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 9.6% of those under age 18 and 4.6% of those age 65 or over.References
