Edmund Waddill, Jr.

Edmund Waddill, Jr. (May 22, 1855 - April 9, 1931) was a U.S. Representative from Virginia.

Born in Charles City County, Virginia, Waddill was educated by private tutors and attended Norwood Academy. Deputy clerk of the courts of Charles City, New Kent, Hanover, and Henrico Counties and of the circuit court of the city of Richmond.He studied law privately and in the University of Virginia at Charlottesville.He was admitted to the bar in 1877 and commenced the practice of law in Richmond in 1878.He served as judge of the Henrico County Court in 1880.He resigned in 1883 to accept the position of United States attorney for the eastern district of Virginia, which position he held until 1885.He served as member of the State house of delegates from 1886 to March 4, 1889, when he resigned.He was an unsuccessful Republican candidate for election in 1886 to the Fiftieth Congress.He successfully contested as a Republican the election of George D. Wise to the Fifty-first Congress and served from April 12, 1890, to March 3, 1891.He was not a candidate for renomination in 1890.He resumed the practice of law in Richmond, Virginia.He served as delegate to the Republican National Conventions in 1892 and 1896.He was appointed judge of the District Court of the United States for the Eastern District of Virginia March 22, 1908, and served until June 2, 1921, when he was appointed as judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and was presiding judge at the time of his death in Richmond, Virginia, April 9, 1931.He was interred in Hollywood Cemetery.
