Lisa Millar is an Australian
journalist , primarily employed as a reporter for ABC Radio. From mid April until mid October she was presenter of ABC news bulletin "The Midday Report" while regular presenterRos Childs was on maternity leave. Upon Ros' return, Lisa now assumes the role of backup presenter for the Midday Report, and continues to present the bulletin each Thursday and Friday.Millar grew up in Brisbane and was a long running ABC Brisbane journalist, working in such roles as TV reporter, State Political Editor and more recently ABC Radio News reporter.
The born and bred Queenslander grew up in the small country town of Kilkivan where the ABC was compulsory viewing. She was determined to one day work for the national broadcaster but began her journalism career in newspapers, managing to get her first (and hopefully last) redundancy cheque at the tender age of 21 when Brisbane's afternoon tabloid newspaper, The Sun, closed down.
She headed north, arriving in Townsville where she worked for the regional television broadcaster, WIN TV, for a year. Lisa then moved across to the ABC as its North Queensland correspondent, covering a large area stretching from the Torres Strait, to the outback mining community of Mt Isa and down to the island chain, the Whitsundays. She eventually dragged herself away from the tropical north to work in the Federal Press Gallery in Canberra for the ABC. She went on the road for the 1996 federal election campaign, which saw John Howard become Prime Minister.
Lisa moved back to Queensland where she became State Political Reporter, covering the rise and fall of the right wing politician Pauline Hanson and her party, One Nation. She was elected president of the 30-strong Brisbane press gallery and was co-anchor for the ABC's state election coverage in 1998 and 2001. She also reported for ABC radio in Queensland and was a regular commentator on issues north of the border for the ABC's Sydney metropolitan radio station, 702.
In addition to her ABC commitments Lisa has been a regular guest lecturer on journalism at several Queensland universities.Lisa is also now the Olympics Correspondent for ABC News in 2008.
