Elephant Graveyard (The Lion King)
- Elephant Graveyard (The Lion King)
The Elephant Graveyard is a fictional place from the universe in which Disney's animated film "The Lion King" is set. It is featured in a rugged, rocky area with high seismic activity. The name is taken from the abundance of elephant skeletons that are found there.
"The Lion King"
In "The Lion King", it is the home of the three hyenas Shenzi, Banzai and Ed.
The Elephant Graveyard is first mentioned in "The Lion King", when Mufasa shows the Pride Lands to Simba. Simba mentions a "shadowy place", causing Mufasa to remark that it is beyond the Pride Lands and forbidden to enter. It is again mentioned by Scar when he attempts to bait the curious cub into visiting it as part of his plan to assume the throne. Simba's curiosity is piqued and he takes his friend Nala there.
The actual location is seen after the "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" song scene as Nala and Simba accidentally stumble into it while wrestling. They explore briefly before being confronted by Shenzi, Banzai and Ed and chased through to a narrow alley where Mufasa rescues the two cubs.
The final use of the Elephant Graveyard as a location is seen during the song scene "Be Prepared", in which Scar tells his amassed hyena henchmen of his plan to kill both Mufasa and Simba. The seismic activity of the area is shown thoroughly in the movement of the ground and various geysers.
""
The Elephant Graveyard is shown briefly when Vitani and Nuka visit. Nuka mentions that the hyenas "ran off." Vitani and Nuka light two sticks ablaze in a gesyer before running out to set fire to the Pride Lands, as per Zira's plan to trap Kiara.
"The Lion King 1½"
The area is visited by Timon and Pumbaa in their quest to find a home. They first arrive there as Mufasa races past them to save Simba and Nala from the hyenas. Later, Timon discusses its plus points, but is interrupted by the second half of the song scene "Be Prepared" as the shadows of the marching hyenas are projected onto the wall behind them. Timon and Pumbaa hastily escape.
