The Ayr and Maybole Junction Railway (A&MJR) was a railway in
Ayrshire ,Scotland that provided services betweenAyr andMaybole . The line is still in use today as part of theGlasgow South Western Line .History
The railway was incorporated on
10 July 1854 .Awdry, p. 59] The line opened to freight traffic on15 September 1856 , and to passengers on13 October of the same year. The line was worked by theGlasgow and South Western Railway (G&SWR), who via an Act of13 July 1863 received further authority to maintain the line from1 August 1863 . An Act of29 June 1871 allowed the G&SWR to fully absorb the A&MJR on1 February 1871 .Connections to other lines

The line is still open for its entire length (although now singled), allowing services to travel from
Ayr to Maybole, and beyond toGirvan andStranraer as part of theGlasgow South Western Line . Only a short branch is closed, which was the original terminus station at Maybole before theMaybole and Girvan Railway was built.References
