Nitya Anand (born 1 January 1925 in Layallpur Pakistan) is a scientist who was the director of Central Drug Research Institute in Lucknow for several years. He was involved in carrying out some pioneering work on pharmaceutical sciences. In 2005 Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) appointed him chairman of its scientific committee. Currently he is the chairman of Ranbaxy Science Foundation (RSF).

His contribution to the drug discovery research efforts in India is more than reflected by his close to half a thousand publications and scores of patent applications. He mentored three generations of researchers who are actively contributing to pharmaceutical development in many ways world over. His tenure at CDRI has seen many leads identified, trials run and few luanched as well. His concept in the lactams as source of potential biodynamic agents led to the discovery of a uroselective alpha blocker currently at advance stage of clinical trials with a pharma major in India. He initially fashioned, the concept of introduction of conformational restrains in molecules for improving pharmacokinetic and dynamic profiles. He is gifted with such an eternal blend of personality and knowledge in science. I am truly fortunate to have seen some of his eternity.
