Adolf Hamann

Adolf Hamann (1885 – 1945) was an officer in the German Army ("Wehrmacht Heer") during World War II.

In 1944, Lieutenant-General ("Generalleutnant") Hamann was the Commander ("Commandant") of Bobruisk during Operation Bagration. Operation Bagration ended in total victory for the Soviets and the German Army Group Centre came close to being completely destroyed. Along with numerous other German generals, Hamann was captured by the Soviets.

After the war Hamann was charged with committing war crimes against the civil populations of Briansk and Orel while acting as their "Commandant". A Soviet military tribunal sitting in Briansk found him guilty on 26 December 1945 and he was hanged later the same day.
