Paramount Theatre (Asbury Park)

The Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, New Jersey, is co-located with the Asbury Park Convention Hall on the boardwalk along the Atlantic Ocean. The two are connected by an arcade that spans the boardwalk, and is boardered by the Atlantic Ocean on the east, and Bradley Park on the west. A statue of Asbury Park founder James A. Bradley faces the buildings west facade.

The theatre has undergone recent renovations by Landmark Studio of Pittstown. The Paramount-Convention Hall complex anchors the north end of the Asbury Park boardwalk, while the Casino (currently under renovation) anchors the south end.

History

The Paramount Theatre was designed by the famed architecture firm of Warren and Wetmore, and was opened on July 11, 1930 with a show starring the Marx Brothers and Ginger Rogers. The 1,600-seat theatre was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

In 2007, the Paramount Theatre celebrated its grand reopening with a summer season produced by The Park Players in association with Madison Marquette. The official grand reopening occurred on Friday, June 29th, 2007 with a debut of a series of short comedies entitled "Attention Span of a Fly," written by new playwright Ben Clawson and directed by associate artistic director, Robert Grant Bradshaw.
