- Paramount Theatre (Asbury Park)
The Paramount Theatre in
Asbury Park, New Jersey , is co-located with theAsbury Park Convention Hall on theboardwalk along theAtlantic Ocean . The two are connected by an arcade that spans the boardwalk, and is boardered by the Atlantic Ocean on the east, and Bradley Park on the west. A statue of Asbury Park founderJames A. Bradley faces the buildings west facade.The theatre has undergone recent renovations by Landmark Studio of Pittstown. The Paramount-Convention Hall complex anchors the north end of the Asbury Park boardwalk, while the Casino (currently under renovation) anchors the south end.
History
The Paramount Theatre was designed by the famed architecture firm of
Warren and Wetmore , and was opened onJuly 11 ,1930 with a show starring theMarx Brothers andGinger Rogers . The 1,600-seat theatre was placed on theNational Register of Historic Places in 1979.In 2007, the Paramount Theatre celebrated its grand reopening with a summer season produced by The Park Players in association with Madison Marquette. The official grand reopening occurred on Friday, June 29th, 2007 with a debut of a series of short comedies entitled "Attention Span of a Fly," written by new playwright Ben Clawson and directed by associate artistic director, Robert Grant Bradshaw.
