The game is built around an alternate history, in which there was a worldwide oil crisis in the 1970s. The U.S. was on the verge of an economic breakdown. Riots crime and strikes were rampant. All law enforcement was brought to the cities, therefore leaving the outlands very vulnerable.
A foreign multinational oil consortium, Oil Monopoly Alliance Regime (OMAR), was determined to monopolize the world oil trade. The U.S. was the last country that kept them from their goal, and they were going to go to any length to bring the U.S. to its knees.
OMAR hired a professional terrorist, Sid Burn, to finally give that little push to destroy the United States' Economy. Sid organized his troops in the remote areas of the southwest. Calling themselves the "Coyotes," they began to destroy oil refineries, commercial installations and other vital industries throughout that region.
With the law enforcement concentrated in the cities, desperate civilians began to take the law into their own hands. Led by an odd trucker named Convoy, the group just called themselves the "Vigilantes". This group of oddballs soon became a major hindrance to Sid.
Meanwhile, the U.S. government, feeling more vulnerable than ever, was focusing all its research and development of new military arsenal. The most advanced weaponry, based on alien technology, was located at Site-4, a secret facility at Papoose Lake. This information was not lost on Sid, and the Coyotes ambushed the facility. However the Vigilantes unexpectedly appeared to stop them and as a result, both parties found themselves in possession of the world's most advanced weaponry.
Unfortunately, the spacecraft the arsenal developed from still had a live alien in it. The Site 4 Employees disected the alien, not knowing what the outcome may be. The alien's friend, "Y", discovered what they had done to his pal, and swore vengance on the human race, destroying all signs of life.
What followed these events were no ordinary skirmishes. Automobile clashes ensued all over the U.S., from Colorado's Rockies to California's farmlands, only to culminate in a battle like no other. Even to this day the events which took place are only a matter of speculation.

The weapons you may find around the map include...
Interceptor Missiles
A pack of a dozen missiles that follow the selected target. Although they may be inaccurate, shooting enough missiles may be a devastating attack.
"1 Pack: 12 missiles""MAX: 36 Missiles"
Bull's Eye Rockets
More powerful than the interceptor missiles, these projectiles can be a great tool for victory. The main downside is the lack of a homing ability.
"1 Pack: 12 rockets""MAX: 36 rockets" Bruiser Cannon
This is a rotating gun that fires small, orange spheres at the selected car, and is suprisingly accurate at a distance, if the target is not speeding.
"1 Pack: 12 shots""MAX: 36 shots"
Sky Hammer Mortar
This "Fire and Forget" weapon shoots a bright colored, homing bomb into the sky and shoots down at the selected enemy vehicle. Although it isn't very powerful at standard, this weapon's combos can make the mortar a fantastic addition to your arsenal.
"1 Pack: 12 motars""MAX: 36 motars"
Roadkill Mines
Contained in a little box at the back of your vehicle, roadkill mines can be great when an enemy is on your tail. Each pack contains six mines.
"1 Pack: 6 mines""MAX: 18 Mines"
Special Weapon
There are also green crates marked "Special" in of which have a different weapon per car. Each car has it's own "Special Weapon" that differs from all the rest. "1 Pack: Varies""MAX: 1 Pack"
oundtrack
Although the cars are mostly based off the original "Vigilante 8", the soundtrack is ""'s music, but remixed.
Features
Salvage
The game will use the salvage point upgrade system slightly different from "Second Offense", meaning that vehicles will be upgraded through the course of picking up salvage point icons dropped by enemies. Vehicles will get to be a good "25% stronger" if two hundred salvage points are gained.
Color Choice
Each car has 5 different colors, most likely to make sure theres no confusion when people play online and pick the same vehicle, also because people may prefer one color over another.
Classic Cars
Instead of changing the color, the player may choose if the car the the "Classic" or not. Once the player has completed the "Quest" mode on a car, that car can change back to it's 1997 self when the player wishes.
Combo/Charge-up
Weapons can now be fired normally, with the classic directional pad combinations for a special attack, or a new charge-up method involving holding down the button until the power the you wish appears, and then letting go.

This map is slated to be the demo's playable level.

* Meteor Crater - Essentially, a mix between the classic V8 "Canyonlands" and "Ghost Town", plus "Meteor Crater" from Second Offense.
* Ski Resort - Like Meteor Crater, this map is heavily inspired by the Ski Resort stages in the previous games.
* Hoover Dam - Again, like the others, this map was inspired by an old map by the same name, but now resembles the Hoover Dam more. Includes Warp Pipes and other Features.
