nihongo|"Vigilante"|ビジランテ is an arcade game developed and published by Irem in Japan in 1988, and was published and released in the U.S. by Data East.

Description

Plot

The game's plot involves a lone vigilante who fights an evil gang called The Skinheads, in order to protect his "turf" and rescue his girlfriend Madonna, who was kidnapped by the gang members.

Gameplay

The game is considered a spiritual successor to Irem's earlier game Kung-Fu Master and its Japan-only sequel, Spartan X 2, in which the main character uses punches and kicks to defeat his opponents in a 2D platform manner. He also can occasionally use a nunchaku against his enemies.

Version differences

The arcade game was later ported to several different home computers and consoles, including the Sega Master System, the Commodore 64, the ZX Spectrum, the Atari ST, the Amiga, the MSX, the Amstrad CPC and the TurboGrafx-16. In the Sega Master System version, Madonna was renamed "Maria" and the Skinheads were called the "Rogues". The Turbografx-16 version was later released for Nintendo's Virtual Console in North America on February 5, 2007, in Japan on February 6, 2007, in Europe on February 9, 2007, in Australia on July 6, 2007.
