symphony orchestra residing inHelsinki ,Finland . YS was founded1926 .History
The roots of Ylioppilaskunnan Soittajat are in the year 1747. In that year in Turku Academy was founded Akateeminen Kapelli, Academic Capella. After great fire of Turku (1827) university moved to Helsinki and the orchestra with it. From 1868 till 1926 it was department of
University of Helsinki under the name of Akadeeminen Orkesteri, Academic Orchestra. In 1926 Academic Orchestra was disbanded and instead was founded independent Ylioppilaskunnan Soittajat.Conductors
