WCR FM

WCR FM

WCR FM is a Wolverhampton based community radio station that began broadcasting at 6:00 a.m. on Friday March 30 2007.

The WCR letters in the title stand for "Wolverhampton City Radio", although the legal on-air name of the station remains WCR FM (referred to on air as "101.8 WCR FM - The Voice of Wolverhampton")

The station broadcasts 24 hours a day on 101.8 FM in the Wolverhampton area, and is owned and operated by WCRT (Wolverhampton Community Radio Training) [http://www.wcrt.co.uk] which provides full radio broadcast training.

The station is run almost entirely by volunteers, with a minimal number of staff looking after day to day company business. Its Station Manager is Steve Morris, the Training and Development Officer is Lee Bannister, and Senior Producer is Saul Abner.

Prior to WCR FM, between October 1999 - March 2007, WCRT ran the campus radio station for the Paget Road Campus of the City of Wolverhampton College, known on air as "1350 WCR AM" (here the WCR letters stood for "Wolverhampton Campus Radio") .

Other stations run by the company have included:
- "Challenge FM" - a short term 'RSL' (restricted service licence) community station, during the early 1990s.
- "Forge FM - an RSL community station in 1997 (in association with Wolverhampton's Media Forge.
- "One City FM" - an RSL community station in 2005 (in association with the Wolverhampton Partnership / Network Consortium).

Since 1989, the company has also produced the "Wolverhampton Community Magazine" for BBC WM, Sunday nights at 7:00 p.m. (on their DAB Digital Radio service).
