Whitsunday Regional Council is a Local Government Area in Queensland, Australia. The Local Government Area was created in March 2008 as a result of the report of the Local Government Reform Commission released in July 2007. The new Council, located in North Queensland, contains the entire area of two former Local Government Areas;
*Shire of Bowen; and
*Shire of Whitsunday.
The report recommended that the new Local Government Area should not be divided into wards and elect eight councillors and a mayor. The Whitsunday Regional Council will cover an area of convert|23856|km2|sqmi|0|lk=on, contain an estimated resident population in 2006 of 30,719 and have an estimated operating budget of AUD48.8m.
The Regional Council covers the towns of Airlie Beach, Bowen, Cannonvale, Collinsville, Gumlu, Inveroona, Merinda, Proserpine, Scottville and Shute Harbour as well as the islands of the Whitsundays, including the resort islands of Hamilton Island, Hayman Island and Daydream Island.
