"The General Electric" is the fourth album to be released by New Zealand band Shihad, in 1999.

The producer of this album, Garth Richardson, is the well respected producer of bands such as Rage Against the Machine, Chevelle and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

The songs "Wait And See", "Just Like Everybody Else" and "Spacing" all were on previous releases, and were re-recorded for the album.

"Wait And See" and "Spacing" were on the "Blue Light Disco" EP and "Just Like Everybody Else" was featured on their single for the track "Bitter", which was taken from their album "Killjoy".

"My Mind's Sedate", "The General Electric" and "Pacifier" were all used as singles. "Sport And Religion" was released to radio, and had a video made, but was not officially a single.

A bonus disc is available with later versions of "The General Electric" that included live tracks from the 2000 Big Day Out festival and four music videos.

It was their first album to garner a 'Platinum' certification in New Zealand --- and then later went on to 2x Platinum, making it their best selling album to date.
