Swiss passport

Swiss passports are issued to citizens of Switzerland to facilitate international travel.

Physical Appearance

Swiss passports are Red in colour, with the words "Schweizer Pass" (German), "Passeport suisse" (French), "Passaporto svizzero" (Italian), "Passaport svizzer" (Romansh) and "Swiss passport (English) at the top right corner with the Swiss equilateral white cross below. Swiss Biometric passports have the standard biometric symbol at bottom right.

* 3 Nationality

* 7 Place of Origin (- note, this is different from Place of Birth)
* 8 Date of Issue
* 9 Issuing Authority
* 10 Date of Expiry

The information page ends with a machine readable zone.

wiss Passports in Popular Media

In John le Carré's novel "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy", British Secret Service officer Rikki Tarr keeps a "Swiss escape" in his suitcase, in case of trouble. Le Carré implies that this was common practice in the Circus, without specifying the attitude of the Swiss government toward foreigners' casual use of Swiss citizenship for espionage or romantic cover.
