- Two Tree Island
Two Tree Island lies north-east of
Canvey Island and south-west ofLeigh-on-Sea inEssex ,England . It is connected to the mainland at Leigh by a bridge.The island was reclaimed from the
Thames Estuary in the eighteenth century and used aspasture until 1910 when a sewage works was built on it. From 1936, the entire island was used as alandfill site; this was later reduced to a single small site on the island in 1974. The eastern half is now anature reserve , run by Essex Wildlife Trust, and the western half acountry park popular withbirdwatcher s. At the western end is a bird hide overlooking a scrape.During World War 2 a
V-2 rocket landed just outside the sea wall of Two Tree Island.ee also
