Exarchate of the Philippines

The Exarchate of the Philippines is a jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople governed by the Orthodox Metropolitanate of Hong Kong and Southeast Asia (OMHKSEA). Correction: Officially the parishes are 3: The [http://www.geocities.com/vlatoja/orthodoxphilippines.html Annunciation Orthodox Cathedral in Paraňaque, Metro Manila] , the [http://holytrinity.faithweb.com Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Los Baňos, Laguna] and the Theotokos Orthodox Church in Cataiňgan, Masbate island. The other 3 mentioned are only chapels: The St Nectarios chapel in Quezon City, Metro Manila, the St Eleftherios chapel in Sorsogon, Bicol, and the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Chapel in Cotabato, Mindanao island. One more church, the Holy Cross Orthodox Church in Siniloan, Laguna, is functioning alternatively, in connection with the Holy Trinity parish of Los Baňos.

History

Around the beginning of the seventeenth century, Greek sailors settled in Manila and Legazpi.~]

The Annunciation church was consecrated by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I on March 5, 2000,~] during his visit to the Philippines. The Divine Liturgy and other Orthodox worship services are said in English and/or in the local language.
