It has traditionally been placed in the manakin family, but evidence strongly suggest it is better placed in Tityridae [ [http://www.museum.lsu.edu/~Remsen/SACCprop313.html Adopt the Family Tityridae] - South American Classification Committee (2007)] , where now placed by SACC.It is found in southern Brazil, also eastern Paraguay, and extreme northeastern Argentina.Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical moist montanes, and heavily degraded former forest.
