Vladimir Landsman (born
December 21 ,1941 inDushanbe ) is a Soviet-Canadianviolinist and teacher.Biography
Landsman started studying the
violin at age five. By the time he was 12, followingDavid Oistrakh 's recommendation, he had entered theMoscow Music School where he worked several years withYuri Yankelevich . He studied four years at he Merzliyakovsky College before entering theMoscow Conservatory , where he earned anAspirantura diploma. He then worked as a soloist at theMoscow State Philharmonic Society under the direction of such renowned conductors asGennady Rozhdestvensky andEvgeny Svetlanov . In1963 , he won third prize in theMarguerite Long -Jacques Thibaud International Competition inParis , and in 1966, first prize in theMontreal International Musical Competition. He has since enjoyed an international career as a soloist, performing frequently throughout the world. In 1973 he emigrated toIsrael , and shortly thereafter toCanada , of which he became a naturalized citizen in1981 . Since1975 , Landsman has taught at the Music Faculty of the University of Montreal, where he is currently an associateprofessor .violinist-stub
