The Cincinnati Reds' 1972 season consisted of the Reds winning the National League West title with a record of 95-59, 10½ games over the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Reds also defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates in five games to win the National League title, before losing the seven-game World Series to the Oakland Athletics, who dealt the Reds three of those losses on the AstroTurf of Riverfront Stadium, where the Reds played their home games. The Reds were managed by Sparky Anderson.
