Penn Square Mall is a two-story, 1.1 million square foot upscale regional shopping mall and 10-screen theater in Oklahoma City, located at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and NW Expressway, near I-44. Built as an outdoor "lifestyle" mall in 1960 it was covered in 1982 and renovated in 1988 to include a second level and food court at a cost of $100 million. The mall's six entrances were rebuilt in 2007 and 2008. Hotels, strip malls, and "big box" retail stores, were built around the perimeter by other owners, the largest being Belle-Isle Station in 1999, a 45-acre development at the site of the former Belle Isle lake and power plant, that includes a Wal-Mart Supercenter.
