The Murray-Darling Basin Commission is the executive arm of the Murray-Darling Basin Ministerial Council and is in charge of managing the Murray River and the Menindee Lakes system of Darling River, and advising the council on any matters that relate to the use of the water, land, and other environmental resources of the Murray-Darling Basin.
The Chief Executive of the Murray-Darling Basin Commission (Dr Wendy Craik) presented this paper at the Rosenberg International Forum on Water Policy [http://rosenberg.ucanr.org/documents/II%20Craik.pdf] in May 2008, it describes the MDBC's response to extreme drought conditions in the Basin and challenges for the future.
The Murray-Darling Basin Commission commissions research into aquatic science and is a source of information on Australian freshwater biology.
