USS Dunlin (AM-361) was an
Admirable-class minesweeper built for theU.S. Navy duringWorld War II . She was built to clear minefields in offshore waters. Post-war, her crew returned home with three battle stars to their credit."Dunlin" was launched
26 August 1943 byWillamette Iron and Steel Corp.,Portland, Oregon ; sponsored by Mrs. Ernest E. Lissy; and commissioned16 February 1945 , Lieutenant T. T. Wuerth,USNR . in command.End-of-war Pacific Theatre operations
"Dunlin" arrived at
Guam fromSan Pedro, California ,7 June 1945 . Ten days later she sailed forOkinawa to join in sweeping operations in theEast China Sea in coordination with theU.S. 3rd Fleet strikes against Japan. On6 September "Dunlin" left Okinawa to sweep the approaches to Sasebo and Nagasaki. Between20 September and31 October she clearedBungo Suido area and after an escort voyage betweenHiro Wan and Kure, arrived at Sasebo20 November to unload her minesweeping gear and supervise Japanese minesweepers operating inOzue andAriake Wans."Dunlin" put out from Sasebo
18 January 1946 forPusan, Korea , arriving the next day. She checked the harbor for acoustic mines, then carried cargo fromChinhae for Allied vessels at Fusan. She was at Sasebo from1 February until4 March , then escorted fourYMS s by way ofHong Kong toSubic Bay arriving18 March .Demilitarization and decommissioning
She was demilitarized there and sailed to
Shanghai, China , arriving22 April . "Dunlin" was decommissioned29 May 1946 and turned over to theForeign Liquidation Committee of theState Department for transfer to the Chinese Maritime Commission."Dunlin" received three
