RMJM Hillier is the North American studio of
RMJM , an international architectural firm whose signature projects include the acclaimedScottish Parliament and theSt. Petersburg headquarters forGazprom . The studio was formed by the merger of U.K.-based RMJM and the U.S.-based Hillier, whose signature projects include headquarters forGlaxoSmithKline , in June 2007. The merger makes RMJM one of the largest firms in the world, with 1,200 people and $15 billion in construction value globally, according to BusinessWeek.com (July 11, 2007).Peter Morrison is CEO of RMJM. His father, Sir Fraser Morrison was brought on as CEO of RMJM Hillier in New York to aid with the transition. He will continue as CEO into the foreseeable future.
Corporate headquarters, large-scale urban projects, and higher education projects are strengths of the firm. In late 2007, it established an International Education Studio in RMJM Hillier’s Princeton office, run by Gordon Hood, former director of RMJM’s Edinburgh office. RMJM and Hillier’s combined education portfolio includes key projects on the campuses of Oxford, Cambridge, Princeton, Harvard and Yale Universities. RMJM Hillier also has a series of specialty studios: Architectural Preservation, Environmental Graphics and Interior Architecture.
History
Hillier Architecture was founded in 1966 by J. Robert Hillier, FAIA, and provided services in architecture, interior design, land planning, strategic facilities planning, historic preservation, urban design, landscape architecture, and graphic design. Named “2006 Firm of the Year” by the American Institute of Architects – New Jersey Chapter, Hillier Architecture received over 300 design awards for design, leadership and environmental responsibility.
