At the Zü Author(s) Ron Ruelle Current status / schedule Ended Launch date 1995-11-20 End date 1998-06-20 Syndicate(s) Creators Syndicate At the Zü was a daily comic strip drawn and written by Ron Ruelle. It began in Knoxville News-Sentinel in 1990 as Stoopid Zü, and was later retitled for syndication in 1995.
The strip was about a zoo run by Edsel (official title: Director of non-human resources) and featured wide variety of animals, but the primary focus was Darwin the monkey. Other characters were Evelyn (a feminist ostrich), Zed (the zebra), Miles (the polar bear), and a somewhat infinite number of penguins, necessary due to Miles' appetite for them. There was another character early in the strip's run: Carl the lion. According to the cartoonist, "he was too hard to draw, so he quit."
The strip ceased syndication in 1998, but continued as a webcomic, retitled once again as Darwin and Co. This revival was short-lived, finally ending on February 20, 2000.
