April 29 ,1978 ) is a Canadian politician. He was elected to represent the constituency ofSaskatoon Massey Place in theLegislative Assembly of Saskatchewan in the 2007 provincial election. Broten currently serves as the Official Opposition Critic for Advanced Education and Youth.Broten holds a Bachelor's Degree in International Studies from the
University of Saskatchewan and a Master’s Degree in Political Science fromSimon Fraser University . While earning his International Studies degree, he spent four months studying inGuatemala and living with a local family. During his time at SFU, he was employed as a teaching assistant in the political science department and also served as a facilitator with theBritish Columbia Citizens' Assembly on Electoral Reform . During university, Broten spent eight seasons as a tree planter. He has worked as a youth policy analyst with the Department of Culture, Youth and Recreation, a health policy manager with the Saskatchewan Medical Association, and served as an elected board member of theSaskatoon Co-op .Broten and his wife, Ruth, live in the Massey Place constituency and are active in the community.
