as_of = October 5, 2006The Brokdorf Nuclear Power Plant (German: Kernkraftwerk Brokdorf, or KBR) is close of the municipalityBrokdorf inSteinburg ,Schleswig-Holstein ,Germany . It started October1986 by a first-of-its-kind joint venture betweenPreussenElektra andHamburgische Electricitäts-Werke . During the building phase in the 70's and 80's there were violent protests of nuclear power by opponents. [http://www.dw-world.de/popups/popup_printcontent/0,,2306337,00.html Nuclear Power in Germany: A Chronology] ]It is a
Pressurized water reactor with uranium dioxide fuel elements, which are used in degrees of enrichment of 1,9 %/2.5 %/3.5 %. It also usesMOX fuel . In the reactor there are 193 fuel assemblies with a heavy metal weight of 103 tons altogether. The nuclear power station Brokdorf has a thermal output of 3,765 MW and an electrical output of 1,440 MW. It belongs to the 3rd PWR generation in Germany. With a net generation of scarcely under 12 billion a KW/H it was the world-wide leader in 2005.
