The Brokdorf Nuclear Power Plant (German: Kernkraftwerk Brokdorf, or KBR) is close of the municipality Brokdorf in Steinburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It started October 1986 by a first-of-its-kind joint venture between PreussenElektra and Hamburgische Electricitäts-Werke. During the building phase in the 70's and 80's there were violent protests of nuclear power by opponents. It is a Pressurized water reactor with uranium dioxide fuel elements, which are used in degrees of enrichment of 1,9 %/2.5 %/3.5 %. It also uses MOX fuel. In the reactor there are 193 fuel assemblies with a heavy metal weight of 103 tons altogether. The nuclear power station Brokdorf has a thermal output of 3,765 MW and an electrical output of 1,440 MW. It belongs to the 3rd PWR generation in Germany. With a net generation of scarcely under 12 billion a KW/H it was the world-wide leader in 2005. [ [http://www.nucweek.platts.com/ Nucleonics Week ] ]

The final disconnection of the plant is so far intended for 2018. [ [http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,2144,2306337,00.html Nuclear Power in Germany: A Chronology | Germany | Deutsche Welle | 10.01.2007 ] ]
