Ned Hayes

Ned Hayes was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Two-Mile-Borris and with the Tipperary inter-county team in the 1900s.

Ned Hayes was born in Two-Mile-Borris, County Tipperary, Ireland and was regarded as one of the most skilful hurlers of his era. He first came to prominence in 1899 when his club lost the county final. In spite of this Hayes was still picked on the Tipperary team that would subsequently contest the inter-county championship. As a result of this he collected his first Munster title following a comprehensive victory over Clare. He later collected his first All-Ireland title after Wexford fell to Tipp in the championship decider. In 1900 Hayes captured his first county title. As a result of this victory he was appointed captain of the Tipperary inter-county team for the upcoming championship. Hayes subsequently captured a second Munster title before later guiding his men to a second consecutive All-Ireland victory, this time over London in a much tighter game. He subsequently went on to collect several more county titles with his club.

Ned Hayes died in 1946.
