MBE (bornMarch 5 1939 ) is a British Olympic swimmer. She was born in theLondon suburb ofNeasden and was married there in1962 inSt. Catherine's Church .Grinham competed in the 1956 Olympic Games in
Melbourne ,Australia , winning the gold medal in the 100 mBackstroke in a time of 1:12.9 seconds, setting a new world record. In doing so, she became the first British swimmer to win an Olympic swimming title sinceLucy Morton in 1924.Grinham also competed in the
1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games inCardiff ,Wales where she won the 110 yards Backstoke gold medal in a time of 1:11.9 seconds. She went on to become the first person to hold Olympic, European and Commonwealth titles at the same time,In 2007, she was awarded an
