"Xiurenbagrus xiurenensis"
(Yue, 1981)"Xiurenbagrus" is a
genus ofcatfish es (order Siluriformes) of the familyAmblycipitidae . It includes twospecies , "X. gigas" and "X. xiurenensis".cite journal|url=http://silurus.acnatsci.org/ACSI/library/biblios/2007_Ferraris_Catfish_Checklist.pdf|title=Checklist of catfishes, recent and fossil (Osteichthyes: Siluriformes), and catalogue of siluriform primary types|first=Carl J., Jr.|last=Ferraris|journal=Zootaxa |volume=1418|pages=1–628|year=2007|format=PDF ]Taxonomy
"X. xiurenensis" was first described in 1981 as "Liobagrus xiurenensis". However, it was realized that "Liobagrus" would not be monophyletic with the inclusion of this species, so "Xiurenbagrus" was erected. The genera "Amblyceps" and "Liobagrus" are sister group pair that is, in turn, sister to "
Xiurenbagrus ". "X. gigas" was described in 2004.Distribution
"X. gigas" is known only from the
Hongshuihe River which belongs to theXijiang River , the largesttributary of thePearl River basin inChina .cite journal|title=A new species of amblycipitid catfish, "Xiurenbagrus gigas" (Teleostei: Siluriformes), from Guangxi, China|first=Yahui|last=Zhao|coauthors=Lan, Jiahu; Zhang, Chunguang|journal=Ichthyological Research|year=2004|volume=51|pages=228–232|doi=10.1007/s10228-004-0220-z] "X. xiurenensis" inhabits the Pearl River, northward toLijiang River nearGuilin ,Guangxi , southward toZuojiang River nearLongzhou , Guangxi.Description
"Xiurenbagrus" species have a ventral mouth. The fin margins are pale. The
adipose fin is not confluent with thecaudal fin and has a free lobe.cite journal|title="Xiurenbagrus", a New Genus of Amblycipitid Catfishes (Teleostei: Siluriformes), and Phylogenetic Relationships among the Genera of Amblycipitidae|first=Xiaoping|last=Chen|coauthors=Lundberg, John G.|journal=Copeia |year=1995|issue=4|pages=780–800|doi=10.2307/1447027|volume=1995] "X. gigas" is the largest species of amblycipitid and grows to about 16.5centimetre s (6.5 in) SL. "X. xiurenensis" is a small- to medium-sized amblycipitid, growing to about 10.7 cm (4.2 in) SL.Ecology
Little is known about the ecology of these fishes. "X. xiurenensis" is benthic and inhabits streams in the
Nanling mountain range. The stomach contents have been studied to contain parts ofarthropod s.References
