Joseph Puma

Joseph "Joey" Puma (d. 1985) was a member of the Bonanno crime family.

Biography

Born in Little Italy, Manhattan, Joseph Puma joined the Bonanno crime family. Puma served under capo Michael Sabella until the 1979 murder of boss Carmine Galante and Sabella's demotion. Puma then joined the crew of rival Bonanno capo Phillip Giaccone. On May 5, 1981 capo Joseph Massino murdered Giaconne and Puma joined the crew of Dominick Napolitano. On August 17, 1981 Napolitano himself was murdered in the aftermath of the Donnie Brasco scandal. His son Salvatore Puma was stabbed to death by Gambino crime family capo Charles Carneglia in a fight over money on July 29, 1983. His suspected killer Carneglia, a fugitive was arrested on February 10, 2008 along with John D'Amico, Domenico Cefalu, Joseph Corozzo, Nicholas Corozzo, Frank Cali, and several other high ranking mobsters for an assortment of crimes. Joseph died of natural causes in 1985 in Hallandale, Florida before Charles Carneglia could be brought to justice for murdering his son.

On his retirement, Puma moved to Hallandale, Florida. In Hallandale, he opened a successful fine Italian cuisine restaurant called "Little Italy". Joseph was considered an important member in the Bonanno crime family even though he was considered "retired". Joseph was a close associate with Bonanno mobster Steven Maruca.

In 1985, Joseph Puma died of natural causes in Hallandale.
