footnotes = Contrecoeur is a city in southwestern Quebec, Canada on the eastern bank of the St. Lawrence River.

Contrecoeur is approximately km to mi|45 northeast of Montréal, and is easily accessible via Autoroute 30. Autoroute 30 is the main road from Montréal to Contrecoeur from the southwest, and it continues on to Sorel-Tracy to the northeast.

History

In 1672, Antoine Pecaudy de Contrecoeur, a soldier of the Carignan-Salières Regiment, was granted a seigneury by King Louis XIV. He and 68 other pioneers founded the town in 1681, and it his named in his honor. A migratory bird sanctuary is located near the town on Contrecoeur Island.
