Mission

History & Lineage

303d Bombardment Group

The 303d Bombardment Group flew B-17s from RAF Molesworth in England during World War II as part of the Eighth Air Force. The unit was inactivated in French Morocco on 25 July 1945, after participating in Project GREEN, the repatriation of POWs. While the group was reactivated and assigned to SAC on 1 July 1947, there is no evidence that the unit was ever manned. The 303d Bombardment Group was again inactivated on 6 September 1948. Redesignated the 303d Bombardment Group (Medium) and activated at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona on 4 September 1951, the unit was equipped with B-29s. The unit was inactivated on 16 June 1951.
