USS "Crag" (AM-214) was an "Admirable"-class minesweeper built for the
U.S. Navy duringWorld War II . She was built to clear minefields in offshore waters, and served the Navy in thePacific Ocean . Post-war, after briefly serving with the Atlantic Fleet, she returned home proudly with onebattle star to her credit."Crag" (AM-214), formerly spelled "Craig", was launched
21 March 1943 byTampa Shipbuilding Co., Inc.,Tampa, Florida ; sponsored by Mrs. Q. Abercrombie-St. John; completed atCharleston Navy Yard ; and commissioned1 August 1945 , Lieutenant G. W. "Crag" served with the Naval Mine Warfare Test Station,
Solomons Island, Maryland , until17 December 1945 when she sailed upriver toWashington, D.C. , for leave and upkeep. On4 January 1946 she sailed for the west coast arriving atSan Pedro, California ,3 February . She remained there until21 March when she sailed toHong Kong , calling atPearl Harbor ,Eniwetok , andGuam on her outward bound passage. She swept mines in theEast Hainan Straits until16 June when she cleared Hong Kong, returning toSan Francisco, California ,14 August .Post-War Atlantic Fleet Assignment
Reassigned to the Atlantic Fleet, "Crag" sailed from
San Francisco, California ,4 October 1946 and arrived atCharleston, South Carolina ,3 November for overhaul. From9 February 1947 to26 May she served at the U.S. Navy Mine Countermeasures Station atPanama City, Florida , and after overhaul, joined in exercises inChesapeake Bay from13 October to28 November .Post-War Decommissioning
On
2 December she sailed from Charleston and visitedNew Orleans, Louisiana , from8 December to20 December before reporting toOrange, Texas ,22 December . There "Crag" was placed out of commission in reserve19 March 1948 . Transferred to Mexico as "DM-15", later renamed "General Pedro María Anaya" (A-8).Awards
