Big Tom, Bronx

Big Tom, Bronx

Big Tom is a submerged rock to the southwest of City Island. It only appears at very low tide making it a reef. It was named after Thomas Pell who owned City Island. It is a hazard to boats navigating there. It is a special hazard at night, as the navigation aide marking it can be "lost" in the maze of lights from NYC across the water behind it.
